Turkey Stuffing Recipe
with Apples

This colorful Turkey Stuffing Recipe goes well as a

Turkey Stuffing Recipe with Apples is its title but it could well be a "Dressing Recipe" to use alongside turkey, chicken, pork, or beef dishes. So let's clear up the difference between a stuffing and a dressing, and there is a difference I hear.

I don't know about you, but I used the two interchangeably for a long time. I guess this was the "something new" I learned that particular day, so as "Martha" would say, "That's a good thing." I'm not really on a first-name basis with her, but I was sure you'd know to whom I was referring.

Stuffing is what you put inside a turkey or chicken before roasting whereas dressing is made in a casserole dish, baked in the oven, and served with your turkey, chicken, pork or even beef entree.

This particular recipe is a bread stuffing recipe with the addition of unpeeled apples, which add just the right color and flavor to any traditional holiday dinners.

Right now we're thinking about turkey and stuffing to add to our Thanksgiving Holiday Recipes. But please don't stop there. This versatile stuffing or dressing will become a favorite Turkey Stuffing Recipe but also will feel quite comfortable as a side dish any time of the year. It will elevate a plain chicken or pork dish to company-worthy. I hope you'll find many uses for this stuffing/dressing.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

1/4 cup chopped onions

1/4 cup chopped celery

4 cups dry bread cubes

1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning

1/2 teaspoon dried sage

Freshly ground black pepper to taste

1 cup diced, unpeeled apples

1/2 cup chicken broth

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°F if making dressing and spray with cooking spray about a 1-1/2 to 2-quart casserole dish with cover.

  • Melt butter or margarine in a skillet.

  • Cook onion and celery in butter until tender.

  • In a large bowl, combine the onions and celery with all the dry ingredients.

  • Add the diced apples and about 1/2 cup chicken broth to moisten the dish.

  • Mix all ingredients together well. If you're using this as a turkey stuffing recipe, loosely stuff your turkey.

  • This will yield enough stuffing for a 10-12 pound turkey

  • Follow the "stuffed turkey" instructions for roasting.

  • If you're making dressing, transfer mixture to your prepared casserole dish.

  • Bake covered in the 350°F oven for about 30 to 35 minutes and fluff with a fork.

  • We served the dressing with chicken and it was perfect. Hope you'll give this great recipe a try...it's easy to make and has a just-right taste.
