This recipe for Tart Apple Torte just screams for the always-tart but versatile Granny Smith apple. It is actually a sweet, apple dessert that is a cross between looking like a pie with a macaroon-like crust and an apple crisp.
Try as you may to cut this into neat, pie-shaped wedges, the crunchy crust makes that almost impossible. It really doesn't matter as far as taste or appearance is concerned; it has a high place among the apple desserts.
A nice way to serve the torte is warm-to-hot with cream, but if cream is not a staple in your house, feel free to add whipped cream, as I did, or let a little ice cream begin to melt into it. Any way you choose, I think you'll like this dessert for several reasons...it's quick, it's simple, and it tastes divine, especially with those walnuts or pecans scattered throughout. Now I did it...I've talked myself into being hungry for a dish of this lovely apple dessert. I'll be back soon...maybe you can go ahead and start putting yours together.
