I have my lovely niece to thank for sharing this Swiss Apple Pie recipe with us. What a girl she is...imagine thinking to send me an apple recipe and any day now we expect her to deliver her first child...a daughter, Sarah. I have a very important role in this story because I have been given the honor of being "Grandma Penny." I can't wait.
I could talk about that all day, but to get back to the pie, this is a keeper of all keepers. I made it the other day, and my taste-testers raved about it. It has a perfect amount of sliced apples underneath a top "crust" and the combination just tempts you until you give in and have a slice.
Who could dislike this buttery "crust" with chopped walnuts, atop the sweetened and seasoned apples. Although this is not your typical apple homemade pie recipe, those ingredients come together with few others into a more-than-tasty dessert for any and all occasions. We put a little whipped cream on it and made it extra-special by adding a nice, red maraschino cherry.
I know you're going to love this one...by all means give it a try.
