Sour Cream Apple Pie

Sour Cream Apple Pie  with Creamy Delicious Center

In the pie category, this Sour Cream Apple Pie stands out by itself. This apple pie dessert recipe produces a rich, creamy center, but a somewhat crunchy topping, and all the while, the apples maintain their integrity.

It has a more complex taste than some other pies, but that’s what makes it interesting and sets it apart. It also might be a bit lighter dessert choice if you wanted to have it following a heavier meal.

This apple dessert recipe will produce an absolutely perfect addition to any dessert table. Perhaps you could also have a variety of coffee and tea flavors to taste-test, and allow your guests the opportunity to pair their favorite coffee or tea with their favorite dessert.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons flour

1/8 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup sugar

1 large egg

1 cup sour cream

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups chopped apples

Crumb Topping

1/3 cup sugar

1/3 cup flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup butter

Blend these topping ingredients together in a small bowl for later.

Method

  • Preheat oven to 425°F

  • Line a 9-inch pie pan with pastry. If you're making a homemade crust, just divide any pastry recipe for a two-crust pie in half.

  • In a large bowl, sift together flour, salt, and sugar.

  • Add a slightly beaten egg, sour cream and vanilla extract

  • Beat this mixture until it's smooth.

  • Fold in chopped apples.

  • Fill the pastry-lined pie pan with this mixture, with no crumb topping yet.

  • Bake for about 15 minutes and reduce heat to 350°F.

  • Bake 30 minutes longer, and raise oven temperature to 400°F.

  • Remove pie from the oven and sprinkle with Crumb Topping.

  • Place in the 400° oven for 10 minutes.

    This pie will serve 6 generously.
