One of our new Holiday Appetizer Recipes!
Sausage and Apple Appetizers

Sausage and Apple Appetizers...wonderful with a glass of wine.

Is finding Holiday Appetizer Recipes on your "to do" list this year? Our versatile Sausage and Apple Appetizers definitely deserve a look. They will become handy, make-ahead appetizers that I'm sure both you and your guests will enjoy.

This choice has it all... looks, taste, and ease of preparation...that you'll love and make for many occasions during the year.

Among your holiday appetizer recipes, it's always nice to have some hot, some cold, some easy, and perhaps a few...well maybe just one...that may take a little extra time. With this particular recipe, you'll cover both the hot and easy categories.

I hope you and your family and friends will love it as much as my family and trusty taste-testers did.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter

1 large onion, chopped

1/2 cup apple jelly

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

2 lbs. cocktail-size smoked sausages
(Vienna sausages, cocktail franks, or kielbasa in bite-size chunks may be substituted for the smoked sausages.)

3 apples, peeled, cored and sliced (I used red delicious.)

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons warm water

Method

  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and saute, stirring constantly, until onion is light golden brown.

  • Add to that the apple jelly and brown sugar, stirring until they are incorporated.

  • Add sausages and reduce the heat to a medium-low. Cook for an additional 20 minutes, more or less, until the mixture just beginsto thicken.

  • Add the apple slices and partially cover the pan, cooking the apples until they're just tender...about 8 to 10 minutes.

  • Stir together well the cornstarch and warm water, add it to the mixture in the pan and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.

  • That's it...enjoy. This can also be refrigerated and reheated later on that day or the next day. How convenient is that?

Looking for a dessert recipe, too? Please check out our Apple Cake II ...it always gets rave reviews.
