What a comfort meal to come home to on a cold day--Apple Cider Beef Stew.

Here's a Dutch Oven Beef Stew Recipe for Apple Cider Beef Stew that will soon become one of your favorite comfort foods. When the wind is blowin' and you're chilled to the bone, what a wonderful, comforting, hot stew to come home to.

It's an old-fashioned beef stew that, served with a simple salad, rolls and butter, could well be a lovely Sunday Dinner. Sometimes, even when guests are coming, there's nothing they would enjoy more than this relaxing and simple Harvest Stew Recipe. Imagine the conversations about how everyone remembers their moms simmering up their favorite stews...I'll bet everyone has a little story to tell about possibly a snowy day they remember when this hot stew just warmed them from head to toe.

Although slow cookers have really become more and more popular these days, our Dutch Oven BeefStew Recipe simmers to perfection in a Dutch Oven. This is a great dinner idea any time, but especially when it's cold outside.

Ingredients

2 pounds stew meat of uniform size

2 teaspoons salt

2 large onions, roughly chopped

3 cups apple cider or apple juice

6 carrots, cut into large chunks(If you especially like carrots, add more.)

6 medium-sized potatoes, cut into large chunks

2 medium-sized apples, cut into chunks

Method

  • Spray your Dutch Oven with cooking spray.

  • Brown the stew meat slowly and well. Please don't rush this step.

  • Add onion and continue to cook until onions are softened.

  • Add apple Juice or cider.

  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat to simmer.

  • Cover and continue to simmer for 2 hours.

  • Add chunks of carrots, potatoes, and apples.

  • Bring to a boil and lower to simmer again. When simmer is reached,
cover again and simmer for about 1/2 hour or until vegetables are just tender.

  • Thicken sauce, if desired, by whisking 3 tablespoons flour with 6 tablespoons cold water. Add about 1/4 cup hot mixture from the pot to the flour and water, mix well to temper it and remove any lumps, before adding to the stew.

  • Add this mixture all at once to the stew, and stir together well. Increase heat to medium/high and continue stirring until the gravy is thickened. Enjoy this cozy and warm bowl or plate of our Dutch Oven Beef Stew Recipe, also referred to as "comfort."
