Classic Waldorf Salad Recipe

Creamy goodness and fresh crunchiness of the classic waldorf salad recipe.

Classic Waldorf Salad Recipe...There's everything to love in this famous salad. With the crunch of crisp red apples, celery and walnuts, it is brought together with a lovely, creamy, rich dressing of mayonnaise and whipping cream, it's no wonder it has been and is one of the most recognized of the many Waldorf Salad Recipes.

Variations of the original recipe must be in the hundreds, and many times it is even acknowledged as the Apple Waldorf Salad Recipe. Of course, I can see why this happens because the apple is a most-important ingredient in many, many different recipes.

I guess this site is proof of that, isn't it? =)

Ingredients

2 cups diced apples (I used Red Delicious Apples and did not pare the apple.)

1 tablespoon sugar

1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Dash of salt

1 cup 1-inch julienned celery sticks or you may prefer to just chop the celery

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 cup whipping cream, whipped

1/4 cup mayonnaise

Time to start thinking about canning...although it's a craft from the past, it is very much in style again. Why not make your jars look very personal and professional with labels from myownlabels.com

Method

  • Dice your two cups of apples, and toss with a little bit of lemon juice to retain their nice, white color next to the red peels.

  • In a medium-sized bowl, stir together 1 tablespoon of sugar, the 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice and just a dash of salt.

  • Add the diced apples, julienned or chopped celery, and chopped walnuts and mix together.

  • If you haven't already, whip the 1/2 cup of whipping cream, and fold the mayonnaise into it.

  • Fold this dressing mixture into the apple mixture and chill.
