Method
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Put apple slices in a medium-sized mixing or other bowl.
In a little bowl, combine the sugars and cinnamon; sprinkle this mixture over the apple slices, and stir all to combine.
Let sit about 1/2 hour until some juice is being released from the apples, and transfer to a shallow, 1-1/2 quart casserole dish with a cover that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
For the topping, combine the flour, oatmeal and sugars.
Mix in the butter pieces with a pastry blender, two knives slicing in opposite directions or even your hands until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour melted butter over the apple mixture in the casserole dish.
Sprinkle the topping mix evenly over the top of the apple mixture.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling. You might also test the apples to make sure they are cooked to your liking.
The crisp can be served at room temperature or warm. A nice dollop of whipped cream or scoop of vanilla ice cream would taste extra yummy, but these additions are not necessary.
