This Baked Chicken Drumstick Recipe was originally with children in mind, but it quickly became a "perfect-for-everyone" recipe. The "twist" part of our baked chicken drumsticks is that they have a wonderfully-sweet taste...vanilla wafer cookie crumbs, perfectly seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Please reserve judgement on this one until you give it a little try, okay? Go ahead and make our baked chicken drumstick recipe for the kids, but put down a few extras because I really think you're going to need them.
I'm telling you, whatever happened to little chicken legs? I picked them up at the grocery store, and I think those little chickens have been spending a great deal of time on a treadmill. ;-) They are just the meatiest legs I've ever seen. I'm glad "KFC" didn't get their hands on these first.
Well, dressed up with their delicious coating they bake away for roughly 70 minutes...I may have mentioned that they were meaty. That's right...70 minutes, and they were done perfectly.
Now these perfectly-baked chicken drumsticks are topped with a nice, sweet, buttery apple and apple jelly sauce. I mean it...you're going to think this is one of the best chicken drumstick recipes you've tasted. I found myself at the grocery store looking around for more already. I hope you like them, too.
Ingredients
1/3 cup butter
1 cup vanilla wafer crumbs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 lbs. chicken drumsticks
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 10-ounce jar apple jelly
2 unpeeled apples, cored and chopped
Method
Preheat oven to 350°F. Put the 1/3 cup butter into a 13 x 9 dish and while the oven is heating, put the butter in to melt. Please be sure to keep an eye on it because it wouldn't take long for the butter to burn.
Whisk together the vanilla wafer crumbs with the salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Dip the drumsticks into the melted butter, roll in crumb mixture and add the chicken to the remaining melted butter to bake. Sprinkle any crumbs left over right on top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 65 to 75 minutes until chicken is thoroughly cooked.
While your drumsticks bake, melt 2 Tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Add the cornstarch and whisk together.
Stir in the apple jelly and chopped apples.
Cook apples in the sauce until tender, about 5 or 6 minutes.
When serving the drumsticks, pour the sauce over them.
I hope your whole family will rate this recipe highly, and I thought perhaps you might like to try our
