Apple Topped Pork Chops

Apple laden pork chops with raisins and topped with a delicious gravy.

This recipe for Apple Topped Pork Chops blends a few somewhat unlikely ingredients, but the results are a very tasty main dish. Even the small amount of sage that is sprinkled on the chops has a distinctively different but delicious taste.

I only used three boneless pork chops because that number was sufficient for our family. However, I did not cut the amount of gravy in half because I happen to love this gravy. I stuck to the same number of apples and the 1/3 cup of raisins as well. I'm looking forward to making this baked pork chop recipe again, and this time I think I'll share it with a few guests.

When these oven baked pork chops are taken from the oven, your main dish is done. The gravy comes together nicely and has the added benefit of the flavorful apples and raisins. I hope you'll try this apple topped pork chop recipe because it's a winner in my book.

Ingredients

6 pork chops

2 teaspoons salt

1-1/2 teaspoons sage

vegetable oil

3 tart apples

3 tablespoons molasses

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups hot water

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1/3 cup raisins

Method

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and spray a skillet and shallow baking dish with cooking spray.

  • Season each chop with 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon sage.

  • In a skillet, slowly brown chops on both sides in a small amount of vegetable oil.*

*I suggest using enough vegetable oil to brown the 3 tablespoons of flour in later on.

  • Arrange chops in a shallow baking dish; reserve drippings in the skillet.

  • Now, peel, core and slice apples 1/4 inch thick; arrange on top of pork chops.

  • Pour the molasses over both the apples and chops.

  • Sprinkle the flour over the drippings in skillet; stir together with drippings; cook until brown, stirring occasionally.

  • Slowly add water to that mixture, whisking constantly to keep smooth, and bring to a boil.

  • Stir in the apple cider vinegar; 1/2 teaspoon salt and raisins.

  • Pour over apples and chops in the baking dish.

  • Cover and bake in preheated oven for 1 hour.

I know you'll enjoy these apple-topped pork chops, and let's try to pair a dessert with them. How about a nice Apple Crisp?
