With so many different apple pie recipes to choose from, it's no wonder they are without a doubt one of America’s, if not the world’s, most popular desserts. They seem equally comfortable at a formal dinner or back-yard barbecue. I have a confession to make, though...from the time I got married until much later I was petrified to make a homemade crust. Somehow, there was some mystique about making that crust. Every second year, Thanksgiving was at my sister-in-law's home and she would serve a number of delicious homemade pies...apple, squash, and perhaps pecan. I loved them all, and I always felt like I was really missing out on something special by not giving pie-making a try. After several years, I finally did. Finally, I had accepted my own challenge, and I must say I probably shouldn't have waited so long. The filling went along like clockwork, and the crust went along well, too as I diligently followed a recipe and went step by step. I finally finished. Yes, I had followed a homemade pie recipe and was happy with the finished product. From that day to this, I have made many types, and I'm always happy to hear compliments. Why had I waited so long? We will talk about several kinds of apple pies. If you haven't done so before, jump right in and make one yourself with a homemade crust. You'll just be so proud of yourself...I know you will.
